Maintaining Your Home Furnace
Maintaining your home furnace is an important part of taking care of your house. Here are a few tips on how to keep your home furnace in check.
Is your pilot light burning?
Some furnace systems need to be relit by hand if the pilot light goes out.
If you need to relight your pilot light, you can usually find instructions for how to do so printed on the door(s) of the furnace unit. If you can’t find instructions and are unsure of how to relight your pilot light, call a qualified HVAC technician for advice.
Spring Cleaning
Vacuum out dust and debris from in and around the unit. Inspect or replace your furnace filter every 30 days. A dirty filter plugs up air flow and can cause your furnace unit to overwork.
Vacuum dust from air registers around your home. Make sure air is exiting from them properly. Keep them clear of furniture, rugs, drapes, etc to ensure air flows freely.
