Winterize your home
You can definitely feel the chill in the air in Dayton, OH but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to winterize your home! There’s still time for some energy saving HVAC maintenance. Make the rest of your winter more bearable and affordable with a few tips from the HVAC experts at A-Abel:
Check your Furnace
Your furnace won’t last forever or run efficiently if you aren’t performing routine maintenance on it. Older furnaces (more than 10 years old) are incredibly inefficient and can cause your heating costs to skyrocket. Replacing your old furnace can save you energy and money – and, most importantly, heat your home better.
If you have a newer furnace, ask yourself when the last time you checked it was? Consider contacting a professional HVAC technician to come in to inspect and tune-up up your furnace.
Seal your leaks
Even with a powerful and energy efficient furnace, your home could still end up being cold and your heating bills may be high if your ductwork has leaks or if there are cracks between windows and doors in your home letting out the warmth and allowing cold air to enter. Use an air leak detector (which you can find at most hardware stores) to figure out where the drafts are coming from. Contact an HVAC professional to come in and inspect your ductwork to find and seal any leaks in your HVAC system.
Check your attic
The insulation in your attic is important in keeping your home nice and warm in the winter. Insulation can slowly degrade over the years and lose its volume, making it less effective. If you notice exposed rafters in your attic, you need a new layer of insulation.
It’s never too late to keep your home warm and cut your heating costs. Contact A-Abel to learn how you can best winterize your home!
